A Re‐Examination of Inflation Persistence Dynamics in OECD Countries: A New Approach*

چکیده

This paper introduces a simple and easy to implement procedure test for changes in persistence. The time-varying parameter that characterizes persistence under the alternative hypothesis is approximated by parsimonious cosine function. new minimum of t-statistic computed from regression considers set reasonable values frequency term used evaluate properties asymptotic distributions tests are derived critical provided. An in-depth Monte Carlo analysis shows has important power gains when compared local Generalized Least Squares (GLS) de-trended Dickey–Fuller type various data generating processes with changes. Moreover, an empirical application OECD countries’ inflation most series analysed was high first half sample subsequently decreased. These results conform modern macroeconomic theories point dynamics early 1980s also recent evidence against I(1)−I(0) dichotomy.

The Persistence of Inflation in OECD Countries: a Fractionally Integrated Approach

The statistical properties of inflation and, in particular, its degree of persistence and stability over time is a subject of intense debate and no consensus has been achieved yet. The goal of this paper is to analyze this controversy using a general approach, with the aim of providing a plausible explanation for the existing contradictory results. We consider the inflation rates of 21 OECD cou...

Asymmetric Behavior of Inflation in Iran: New Evidence on Inflation Persistence Using a Smooth Transition Model

T his paper investigates the asymmetric behavior of inflation. We use logistic smooth transition autoregressive (LSTAR) model to characterize the regime-switching behavior of Iran’s monthly inflation during the period May 1990 to December 2013. We find that there is a triple relationship between the inflation level, its fluctuations and persistence. The findings imply that the behavi...

inflation persistence in iran: a bootstrapping approach

using quarterly data from 2002:1 to 2013:2 we study the persistence in the inflation rates in iran based on the total cpi and the cpi in 12 subgroups. the persistence is investigated using two different tools: (i) the adf unit root test and (ii) bootstrap confidence intervals. we calculate a 90% confidence interval for the sum of the autoregressive coefficients, as a measure of persistence, usi...

Inflation Dynamics in a Dutch Disease Economy

Abstract In this paper, the effect of foreign sector macro-variable on inflation dynamics and firms’ pricing behavior has been investigated in the context of a small open economy New Keynesian Phillips Curve. This curve is derived and estimated for a developing oil-exporting economy suffering from Dutch Disease. This version of NKPC is an extension of Leith and Malley’s (2007) small open econom...
